Big band sound at the Kulturhof: for this evening, the Jazz Orchestra of the University of Bern (JOUB) brings Bern tenor saxophonist Klaus Widmer on stage as its soloist.

Klaus Widmer studied tenor saxophone at the Swiss Jazz School Bern and has performed with big bands and small bands at home and abroad since 1990. Between 2003 and 2010 he played around three hundred performances, six CD productions and several project tours with the Swiss Jazz Orchestra. He leads his own jazz quintet "Horn Knox" and performs with "Die 4 Tenöre," "Le Virage Dangereux" and "Padre Padrone," among others.

Founded in December 1995 as the "Uni Big Band," JOUB is today a fixture of the Bern jazz scene. Under the direction of Wolfgang Pemberger, the orchestra cultivates a deliberately broad repertoire — from classic swing through Latin American rhythms to funk and contemporary big band jazz.
